Getting started
Although designing and building a new home or addition is a big undertaking, our approach is simple. We listen to you and work collaboratively to design a project that meets you needs and works with your budget. Home projects begin in many different ways; we will work with you to select a lot, evaluate a home for purchase, visit your home to discuss remodeling or adding on, or design a new home for a lot you already own.
Creating the design
We learn about you, your goals and priorities for your home and translate those wishes into a tangible design. This starts with a design meeting to outline your wish list and your needs, and learn about hoe these correlate with your lifestyle. We sketch in front of you and fine tune ideas over the course of the initial design meeting. Our next meeting is a presentation of those ideas, and additional drawings of floor plans and an exterior view of your new, or improved, home.
Building the team
Once a preliminary design is established we build the team needed to execute the project. We will work with your builder, or help you find one that suits your project and your personality. The team advises on the budget and construction timeline and it may also include an interior designer, soils engineer, landscape designer, surveyor/civil engineer, and structural engineer. Each project team is unique, depending on the size and scope of the project and the jurisdiction in which it is built. We take pride in our ability to work with every person on the team. Our experience has taught that a cohesive and comprehensive team approach creates not only the best end product, but also a delighted client. We will work with your builder, or help you find one that suits your project and your personality.
Developing the drawings
Based on your initial design and budget we get to work creating construction documents that are used for bidding, applying for permits, and throughout the construction of your home or addition. We will work with you on the selection of finish materials, cabinetry design, fireplace design, and trim package. Our goal is to create a comprehensive set of drawings that brings you ideas to life and provides you everything you need to execute your dream home.
Executing the design
We won’t disappear when the drawings are done! Our services for design and materials selection are always available should you need assistance throughout the course of construction. We would love to walk the house with you during construction to how things are progressing. And, of course, we are available to you and your selected general contractor for questions or issues that may arise. A custom home requires a custom process and attention to detail at every step – we remain a part of your team until the job is complete.
